Market Report - Clarence-Rockland

Becoming the premier choice for many!

Resting along side the Ottawa River, the bilingual city of Clarence-Rockland mixes countryside scene with the conveniences of an urban area.

The city of 21,800 is located just 32 km east of Parliament Hill and about 170 km from Montreal.

Rockland is surrounded by rural areas including a number of rural villages that were incorporated by the city after amalgamation in 1998. Bourget, Cheney, Clarence Creek, Hammond, Rockland, Saint-Pascal-Babylon and Cumberland are all within a short distance and contain their own charms and attractions.

Originally developed as a lumber town over 140 years ago, the population began to rise with the implementation of a second railroad in 1908, as a resident could take the train to Ottawa, run errands and return on the same day for 75 cents. Rockland offers a lot to families in the area, as there are many amenities in the city while still maintaining its small town sense of community. A number of grocery stores as well as bigger stores like Walmart and Home Hardware, as well as tons of restaurants from fast-food to fine-dining, leaves many options.

The father of 5 is originally from South Ottawa and moved to Clarence-Rockland 9 years ago; he says he loves it there and can’t see himself ever leaving. “[I] moved to find a healthier environment for my children within a reasonable commute to Ottawa,” he said. He also says the stock of Clarence-Rockland is on the rise. “Rockland has blossomed into a favoured region for those raising a family, as well as those looking to retire,” he says, “with all the amenities of a larger urban center but without the crime and grime it has become a premiere choice for many, myself included.”

What’s on for Canada Day?

On Canada Day Clarence-Rockland will be holding festivities for the whole family all weekend at Simon Park in Rockland. Events will include a pancake breakfast, parade, music, games, a petting zoo and more.

Geneviève Landry and Christopher Blenkiron have been selling homes in the area since 2004, and 2006, respectively. They are the #1 Clarence-Rockland based agents. 613-913-4665 www.ChrisandGen.com
