Embraced by the Greenbelt and the Ottawa River
The region of East Ottawa is located within a 10-minute drive of downtown, and includes a number of communities including Rothwell Heights, Beacon Hill, Blackburn Hamlet and Pineview.
Rothwell Heights was developed in the 50’s and its architecture has unique European flare. It’s considered one of the most prestigious areas in the city as the area provides great views across the Ottawa river and shares Colonel By high school, the #1 ranked public high school in Ottawa (according to the Fraser Institute), with neighbouring Beacon Hill.
Blackburn Hamlet is a highly sought after area for its family oriented feel and large amounts of Greenspace, providing lots of parks, trails and bike paths.
Pineview is the most affordable and contains a wider variety of home styles. It contains 42 recreation sites and is considered to be an ethnically and culturally diverse area.
Tanyse MacLeod has been selling real estate in the area since 1998. Tanyse grew up in Beacon Hill and resides in Rothwell Heights.
Born into a military family who frequently moved, Tanyse’s parents returned to Ottawa to raise their family.
Tanyse says this isn’t rare.
“That’s one thing everybody says about Ottawa and especially our community, is that it is a great place to raise a family,” she said. “You get that strong sense of community within all of the neighbourhoods.”
Being within the Greenbelt also makes the area popular.
“[All of the] communities are within the Greenbelt, they are green in terms of tree-lined streets and mature neighbourhoods,” she said. In the Rothwell Heights area, there are nine active listings starting at $639,900, while averaging $1,245,766.
Beacon Hill real estate is split in to North and South, and the Northern part has 15 active listings averaging $472,903. The starting price in the area is $329,000.
On the South side of the neighbourhood there are 13 listings, averaging $463,623, and starting at $339,900.
Blackburn contains 13 listings starting at $279,900. The average price is $411,207.
Pineview currently has seven listings with an average price of $409,771, starting at $289,900.
What's on for Canada Day?
If you find yourself in the area on Canada Day, Beacon Hill is hosting a community picnic at the Beacon Hill North Community Centre for the whole family. Residents are also invited to the Greater Orleans Celebration on Petrie Island, where a number of events will be taking place for kids and adults alike.
Tanyse grew up in Beacon Hill and currently resides in Rothwell Heights. Selling real estate since 1998 with the philosophy that “you come 1st in real estate”, Tanyse is in the top 1% of REALTORS for Royal LePage Canada. (613) 761-2264 www.OttawaHouses4Sale.com
