The Ottawa Real Estate Boards Turns 90!

The Ottawa Real Estate Board recently celebrated the 90th anniversary of its incorporation on July 9, 1921. (We dont look that old do we?) During the past 90 years, the Boards mission has been to foster a professional environment to enable its members to carry out their practice of real estate. Our 2,680 members are also members of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), whose members are known as REALTORS®. The term REALTOR® is a CREA trademark that symbolizes the high standards of service, professionalism and co-operation that its members adhere to when working on behalf of their clients.
Over the past 90 years, Ottawa Real Estate Board members have watched and adapted as the organized real estate industry grew and changed beyond anyones imagination. An interesting fact: in 1951, 61 residential properties were sold via the Photo Co-op, as the Ottawa MLS® system was known in its early years. Last year, in 2010, 14,199 properties were sold on the Ottawa MLS® system. Also during those 90 years, the industry has seen the development of mandatory education and licensing for REALTORS®, the development of standard forms for use in real estate transactions, and the rise of computers and the Internet as business tools.
To mark the anniversary, wed like to take this opportunity to remind readers of just a few of the many ways that working with a REALTOR® member of the Ottawa Real Estate Board can make buying or selling your home easier, faster and more pleasant.

- market your home to potential buyers

- find homes for sale that meet your familys needs and wants in neighbourhoods you love
- arrange viewing appointments and accompany you to showings
- provide information about comparable properties in the area to help you make the best offer possible, when youre ready
